Chestnut trees pruning

Pruning season

Preferably "green" from June to August, 2-3 intervention are necessary:

  • In June: this is most often pinch, ie that the end is cut crowding branches for slow but leaves most of the leaves that are important to the tree at this time there.
  • In August: you can cut more freely at the base of the shoots.Winter pruning can correct the inadequacies of summer pruning.
  • The absence of leaves can then better see the silhouette of the tree.

The principle of pruning is to drive the main stem vertically with a tutor and choose the best side departures arranged around this axis.
