Origin:Poliénas, near Tullins in Isère.
Known as “Grenoble Nuts” (Noix de Grenoble), this variety still accounts for 7%
of walnut production in the region, but is hardly planted at all
now.

strong.
Bearing:Generally
half-spread.
Fruiting:Quite slow.
Budding:Quite late.
Productivity:Average to quite
good.
Diseases:Sensitive to anthracnose and
bacteriosis.
Pollinating agents:Quite well pollinated by
Franquette.
Flowering period:Male flowers 27 April – 12 May.
Female flowers 8-25 May.

large
Maturity period:average, generally the second week
in October

 

General assessment

Despite the quality of its nuts,
Mayette is a declining species because of its lack of rusticity and production
levels, which most often are just average.
